When I was little, my grandmother always used to bake such wonderful baked goods, using her Yeti 1000 to power her oven. I have such fond memories of the sweet aroma of half-baked chocolate chip cookies filling the room, the warm, green glow of the Yeti 1000's readout and yeah I'm fucking with you.
I rocked back to my van after a long day, ready to whip up a sandwich, watch a little thing on Netflix, then hit the sack. Well, my Goal Zero Yeti 1000 had other plans for me. When I tried to turn on my lights, nothing happaned. I peeked into my little compartment under the bed where I keep my Yeti, and the main readout was off. I tried to turn on the 12V and the inverter, and nothing happened. Similar things have happened before, and in those situations I unplugged everything, left it alone for a few minutes, then it kicked back on again. Not this time!
I did a bit of poking around, and found Todd Parker's YouTube video, showing how to do what is probably a software reset. No dice there either.
My Yeti 1000 was basically a massively heavy paperweight at this point. If this sounds like a problem you have, never fear, there is a way out!
The repair is fairly straight forward with only a phillips screwdriver, two hands, and half a brain!
I suspect that something in the main controller got seriously wigged out, and by disconnecting all power from it, leaving it to settle for a second (aka all the power in the various capacitors to be spent), then restoring power allowed it to get a fresh start. Sadly, I still have no idea why this happens, but I'm glad I'm still keeping up with how to fix it when it does.
Coming soon! I have to take it apart again because I forgot to take pictures when I was actually doing it the first time.
